FEMAIL selected the best Tiffany look-a-likes from Argos, as the luxury giant's classic pieces continue to filter down in to the high street. To keep prices down, often High Street jewellery is made with lower quality diamonds or a diamond substitute, such as cubic zirconia. Jewellery blogger Mellissa Williams says high street jewellery often doesn't have the same workmanship as luxury retailers such as Tiffany's, but can you spot the difference?
A Paloma Picasso design, these 4cm Tiffany hoops are 18k gold — while the Argos ones are 9k gold and almost half the size. However, the Argos version, costing a tenth of the Tiffany pendant, is also studded with tiny jewels.
Both are similar sizes, on identical chains and made of sterling silver. A modern take on the ancient infinity symbol, the Tiffany pendant is made of 18k gold, while the Argos version is 9k gold and has a scattering of tiny real diamonds. At a guess, the Argos ring was inspired by, well, the Tiffany one. Not only is it made of sterling silver too, it costs a fiver.
The Argos version, however, is cheaper still, and made of white gold. The secret to the saving here is clear: fewer diamonds, a lower purity gold 9k compared with 18k and a hollow bangle.
